About Elevenses

The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, is one of my favorite books. It tells the tale of Bilbo Baggins, a short, hairy footed, peace-loving creature called a Hobbit. Mr. Tolkien explains that Hobbits are rather “inclined to be fat in the stomach”, a result of their hearty appetites which consist of:

  • Breakfast
  • Second Breakfast
  • Elevenses
  • Luncheon
  • Afternoon Tea
  • Dinner
  • and Supper

This wonderful book was the first place I had ever heard the word Elevenses mentioned. I thought perhaps it was made up but I soon learned it is an actual mealtime. I was so tickled by this discovery (and the name in general) that it has been my favorite word ever since, not to mention a delightful practice.

My love of tea is what prompted me to start this blog. Elevenses is my dusty little corner of the internet where I can stash and share my many musings and discoveries. Tea is its main theme, although recipes, art, photos, crochet, and my cat will very likely find their way here as well.

Many happy wishes from me to you! Thanks for visiting!
